Sent March 9th 2015

Hello Families, My apologies for the lack of weekly updates lately.  With ISTEP testing and preparing students for the test, it's been difficult to keep up!  Fortunately, students are now done with round 1 of ISTEP and I must say that I'm pleased with how students have done thus far with it.  They were well-prepared and so I look forward to great results! Some updates regarding this week and the end of the third grading period... This Friday, March 13th, marks the end of the thrid grading quarter...

Sent February 8th 2015

Hello Families, I want to start off by saying a huge "THANK YOU" to you all for helping your child to improve their grades by going onto canvas and making up assignments they have not yet submitted.  The progress reports I sent out to you a couple of weeks ago prompted many of you to help me motivate your children and the improvement has paid off!  I want to take a moment to brag about the students who are currently doing EXCEPTIONALLY well in pre-algebra at this moment in time.  Below is the l...

Sent January 25th 2015

Hello Families, I will keep this message short since I gave you all a lot of information last week.  I only have 3 main points to cover: 1) Students MUST MUST MUST MUST have their laptops at school EVERY DAY!  We use them in math class each and every day and as of right now, I'm still receiving excuses from students that say that they left their laptops at home.  Please help me by making sure your child remembers to bring his or her laptop to school.   2) Additionally, speaking of laptops, stude...

Hello Parents and Families, I hope your children are enjoying the 3-day weekend and doing exciting things to observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  I wanted to send out an email to let you all know what's going on in our Pre-Algebra 2-year classes this week, as well as summarize what we have done over the past week. Firstly, we have been learning about circles and how to calculate the area and circumference of circles.  Students seemed to do well with using the formulas needed to make these calculations....

Weekly Message - January 12-16 - Mr. Bear

Sent January 12th 2015

Hello families! Winter sure seems to be taking its toll on us and affecting our time in the classroom together!  I wanted to send this email out to let you know what I plan to accomplish over the next week, provided that school days become more consistent.   Most students have completed the Quarter 3 Pretest already because we did actually have a full day of school last week.  This week, we will begin looking at our geometry and measurement unit.  Students will be exploring areas of polygons and c...

Parents Please Read!!! - Mr. Bear's Classes

Sent November 20th 2014

Happy early Thanksgiving families! As we are approaching a holiday break (and consequently a shopping holiday season as well), I am humbly requesting that you make sure that your children have a calculator that they can use for class.  We are beginning to get into some deeper level computations that are not efficiently done by hand anymore, and students will  benefit greatly from having a calculator. Many of you may be wondering why students couldn't just use their laptops or cell phones as calculators. &...
